NFL Draft Info - New York Giants
Every fan goes into a new season of footbal thinking that their team has a "shot" this year. Some fans have high expectations, some dillusional expectations, and others have no expectations other than that they are excited for another season. In the case of the New York Giants, their fans expectations were high if not at its highest since LT (pun intended). Coming off a #1 seed in the NFC and a skid at the end of the season that could be partially blamed on ChedderBob Burress, the Giants fans were ready for another Super Bowl run.
After a start to the season that seemed to good to be true and an end to the season that seemed to bad to be true, the Giants were just another 8-8 team that didnt live up to expectations. But whose to blame? Should Eli have dumped his wife and started dating the human good luck charm Kate Hudson? Maybe if Kenny Phillips didnt have the knee of a 50 year old war veteran he would have made a difference? The way I grade a season is how many positions are now questions marks or locked down since the start of last season. In the Giants case their might be more questions than answers:
Offense B-: Eli career year. Steve Smith most catches ever by a Giant. Hakeem Nicks breaks all the rookie recieving reocrds. What does that amass to? 8-8. As much as fans liked the throwing arm of Eli this year it equaled to the dissapointment they felt with the running of Brandon Jacobs. Bradshaw was a nice change up until injuries slowed him down. Injuries also finally caught up with the O Line which had an amazing two and a half streak of consecutive games played together. The rookie Beatty showed flashes but age is starting to creep up on an O Line coming into the season rated #1. Eli played like a Pro Bowler most of the season and was by far the offensive MVP. The young question marks at WR really stepped up with Smith and Hicks sperating themselves as the starters for years to come.
Whats next? The 8-8 record the Giants put up really isnt a reflection on the way the Giants put up points. This offense has young talent on the outside complimented with a veteran QB in Manning. The O Line may look to get younger through later round picks or cheap free agents. The real question is what to do at RB. Is Jacobs the 1200 15TD back of 2008 or the RB who we saw in 2009 that could be brought down with a simple sneeze. Bradshaw is a capable change up pace back, but I dont think 200 carries are in his future anytime soon. The decision made in the upcoming offseason here will likely determine the fate of the Giants season
