Survival Football 2011: NFL Week 13

NFL Football - Survivor Football

survivalPhew!  That Jets game was waaaaaaay too close.  I think I had a heart attack for every Steve Johnson drop in that game.  A win is a win, and we move on to Week 13.

It’s getting down to the nitty gritty in terms of teams I haven’t chosen.  My best team available is the Atlanta Falcons according to ESPN’s Power Rankings at #9.  I’ll tell you now, I am starting to plan ahead, and I have them slated at Week 15 vs. the Jaguars.  That does mean I’ll be taking a team outside the Top 10 this week in the Power Rankings.  For your reference, these have been the teams chosen: 1-8, 10 (Raiders), 15 (Jets), 18 (Eagles), and 21 (Chargers)

Results

Week 1: Patriots 38, Dolphins 24- Week 2:Steelers 24, Seahawks 0- Week 3: Chargers 20, Chiefs 17- Week 4: Packers 49, Broncos 23- Week 5: Saints 30, Panthers 27- Week 6:Raiders 24, Browns 17- Week 7: Cowboys 34, Rams 7- Week 8: Ravens 30, Cardinals 27- Week 9: Texans 30, Browns 12- Week 10: Eagles 17 Cardinals 21- Week 11: 49ers 23 Cardinals 7- Week 12: Jets 28 Bills 24

As always, we’ll review 5 popular picks, and then I’ll give you my pick.

San Francisco:  (ESPN 15% / Yahoo 36%) – The 49ers haven’t lost back to back games this season, and they’re not about to start to vs. the lowly Rams.  Harbaugh has this team playing incredible with only 2 losses.  The 49ers had an extra long week to prepare for this game after losing to his brother on Thanksgiving, but don’t expect any hangover, as they take care of business at home vs. a division foe.  The only concern here is Alex Smith and the offense, but he’s been good enough lately, and the Rams have a terrible run defense.  Hint: Start Frank Gore.

NFL Football - Survivor Football

Week 1: Patriots 38, Dolphins 24- Week 2:Steelers 24, Seahawks 0- Week 3: Chargers 20, Chiefs 17- Week 4: Packers 49, Broncos 23- Week 5: Saints 30, Panthers 27- Week 6:Raiders 24, Browns 17- Week 7: Cowboys 34, Rams 7- Week 8: Ravens 30, Cardinals 27- Week 9: Texans 30, Browns 12- Week 10: Eagles 17 Cardinals 21

While the Eagles should not have lost that game, the benching of DeSean Jackson completely changed their offense. It made them more susceptible to an upset, which to the dismay of many Surival owners, actually happened.

Everyone in my own group had Eaglrs, so we're continuing the pool.

For the upcoming week 11, I only have a few minutes to submit this article, but I'll use the old saying "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me". I'm picking SF over the Cardinals.

Survival Football 2011: NFL Week 10

NFL Football - Survivor Football

survivalAlright, halfway there!  Onto Week 9, and I’ll provide a little more detail on the prior weeks.

Week 1: Patriots 38, Dolphins 24- Week 2: Steelers 24, Seahawks 0- Week 3: Chargers 20, Chiefs 17- Week 4: Packers 49, Broncos 23- Week 5: Saints 30, Panthers 27- Week 6: Raiders 24, Browns 17- Week 7: Cowboys 34, Rams 7- Week 8: Ravens 30, Cardinals 27, Texans 30, Browns 12.

Well, the Miami Dolphins got their first win at the expense of KC takers.  In last week's article I warned against that, so hopefully you're still alive in your survival pool.

Going forward, I’m going to pick 2 teams, one to continue my own survival pool, and another to start after the "Giant" debalc in Week 5.

As always, we’ll review 5 popular picks, and then I’ll give you my pick.

Philadelphia Eagles:  (ESPN 31% / Yahoo 55%) – The Eagles are in must-win territory now, if they want a chance at the playoffs.  The schedule only gets tougher from here on out, so they have to take advantage this week (now or never).  While they are 3-5, they have lost to quality teams, but have handled the weak teams pretty well.  It’s a slightly short week coming off of MNF with the Bears, but the Eagles should prove to be the superior birds in this upcoming matchup with Kevin Kolb out and Beanie Wells banged up.

Survival Football 2011: NFL Week 9

NFL Football - Survivor Football

Alright, halfway there!  Onto Week 9, and I’ll provide a little more detail on the prior weeks.

Week 1: Patriots 38, Dolphins 24- Week 2: Steelers 24, Seahawks 0- Week 3: Chargers 20, Chiefs 17- Week 4: Packers 49, Broncos 23- Week 5: Saints 30, Panthers 27- Week 6: Raiders 24, Browns 17- Week 7: Cowboys 34, Rams 7- Week 8: Ravens 30, Cardinals 27

The Rams beat the Saints?  Really?  I honestly didn’t see that coming.  I do try to avoid the road team whenever possible, but I absolutely did not see that coming.  The Ravens/Giants also survived scares, but they held on.  I was distinctly afraid that Cardinals were going to beat the Ravens, but a win is a win.  I’m also glad the Ravens, and their inconsistent offense are out of the way on my teams to pick in Survival.

Going forward, I’m going to pick 2 teams, one to continue my own survival pool, and another one following the “Giant” debacle in Week 5.

As always, we’ll review 5 popular picks, and then I’ll give you my pick.
