NFL Football - Starts and Sits
You are heading towards the playoffs, are you ready? In order to successful navigate the playoff waters you must be able to look ahead. Do you have several players at a position where you must constantly make tough decisions because both players are good? Your bench points don’t help you win, so here are some things to think about as your approach your league trophy. You do have a trophy, right?
Get two defenses that you will be able to alternate throughout the rest of the season. David Nelson won’t help you on your bench, so prepare for the war ahead.
As I mentioned, if you are deep in Running Back, why not try to trade for a top defense? The bye weeks are mostly over, and a good defense could mean the difference between the Championship game and an early look towards next season. Your league might make fun of you, but the results will speak for themselves.
Make sure you know your waiver rules and when the last week to pick up players is. Unless it is a keeper league, dump backups and get an extra kicker, just in case he gets hurt and you are unable to pick anyone else up.
Keeper leagues are the best. If you have a decent lineup, trade a future pick for someone that you will be able to start throughout the playoffs. Don’t worry about next year quite yet and that one draft pick could put you over the top.
If you are afraid Aaron Rodgers or Frank Gore will be inactive in weeks 16 or 17, grab their individual backups, that way you still have the easy matchups. If a player isn’t producing even on your bench, grab starters off the waiver wire to prepare. Remember, if you don’t prepare, you prepare for failure.
Week 10 Starts
Michael Bush – Darren McFadden is out and Bush is an NFL running back that is very capable in the starting slot. In 8/9 starts, Bush has had at least 80 yards. Make sure you get him in your lineup tonight!
Jackie Battle – Kansas City has come back down to Earth. They got away from their game and now that Todd Haley can shave his victory beard, he will remember what the Chiefs are all about. Battle gets the majority of the carries as the Chiefs try to counter Denver’s option attack.
Antonio Brown – Emmanuel Sanders had knee surgery and Hines Ward is now eligible for Social Security. Mike Wallace draws the coverage and Brown gets the targets. Nice gig huh?
Brandon Lloyd – Oh how unlucky the Rams have been with their receiving corp. Now Greg Salas is out for the year and Lloyd might be the only receiver out there. Steven Jackson is a tremendous start this week, and Lloyd is right behind him. Lloyd is also a great buy-low candidate.
Delone Carter – A rookie will make many mistakes, as Carter did fumbling at the beginning of the last game. The only motivator better than pride is money. I think he gets going as he still looks better than Donald Brown.
Maurice Morris – Chicago uses Cover 2 a lot, which opens up the middle of the field. Also, Chris Harris, the Bears’ former safety who is now on the Lions, will give some tips that will help. I like all Lions this week.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis – The Patriots have lost their identity. They will go back to their hurry up, two TE offense that will allow BJGE plenty of opportunities. When Belichek is mad, smart people bet on the Patriots, especially a game as important as this one versus the Jets.
Christian Ponder – Newsflash: The Green Bay Defense has holes. Ponder will only continue to get better and had a decent game against the Packers in his debut a couple of weeks ago. Start with confidence as they will have to throw the whole game.
Michael Jenkins – See Ponder, Christian.
DeMarco Murray – Hello Felix Jones? Not quite, and Mr. Murray knows this is his last solo gig. Make it a good one kid!
Quick side note: The Saints have lost the coin flip every single game thus far. The odds of losing 9 coin flips in a row? 1 out of 512.
Week 10 Sits
Larry Fitzgerald – It is hard to sit a stud. The Eagles are talented, angry, and have been great against a team’s #1 WR all year. Stay away.
Julio Jones – The guy is a beast. Did you know that he stayed at Matt Ryan’s house during the lockout so he could gain chemistry and learn the offense? It looks like it worked (see psychology is fun!). The Saints are great at changing their game plan, and will not let Jones get deep like last week. He should see a whole bunch of passes, but I don’t think he gets in the endzone this week.
AJ Green – The rookie wall is here. The Bengals have the Steelers and the Ravens twice EACH for the remainder of the year. Green’s value has been in his touchdowns, and he won’t get in here.
Beanie Wells – It is hard enough to know whether the guy will play each week or not, but having John Skeleton as your QB won’t help. The Steelers only have to take out Wells and Fitzgerald and the Cardinals’ offense goes nowhere. You don’t want your lineup to do the same, do you?
Josh Freeman – The Bucs might be at home, but Wade Phillips has the defense humming.
DeAngelo Williams – Cam Newton is the primary runner and Stewart is the backup goaline back. Forget about the $23 million he was guaranteed.
Chris Johnson – One game does not make or break a season. I still think we see the same CJ2K from this year.
Sidney Rice – What a talent. What a bad offense. Ravens smell a first-round bye, and the Seahawks will see that this week. Sit everyone.
Kendel Hunter – Frank Gore’s success is because he is a stud, not because of the system.
49ers defense – Great against the run, average against the pass. Eli Manning = Elite Man? Too soon?
Happy birthday Marine Corps!
