Fantasy Football: Buy And Sell-Week 11

NFL Football - Buy/Sell

buy_sellWeek 11 is the last week of bye weeks on the NFL schedule, so fantasy football owners can take some solace in not having to deal with key players being idle after this week. Injuries have taken center stage early this week, with multiple quarterbacks coming out of Week 10 with significant injuries. Now is the time for owners to recognize performance trends and look to upcoming schedules to recognize players who may be ready to breakout in time for the playoff drive.

With that in mind, here is this week's edition of "Buy and Sell" here at Fantasy Daddy.com

Buy

Percy Harvin, WR, Minnesota Vikings- Harvin had six receptions for 52 yards and three carries for 18 yards against the Green Bay Packers in Week 10 as he looked healthy after dealing with a rib injury prior to the Vikings' Week 9 bye and the team tried to get the ball in his hands as often as possible. The Minnesota offense is likely to have ups and downs with rookie Christian Ponder under center, but Harvin is one of the few playmakers on the roster and should continue to be featured prominently if he can stay on the field. Some favorable matchups are coming, starting with the Oakland Raiders in Week 11 and continuing with the Atlanta Falcons (Week 12) and Denver Broncos (Week 13). He is simply too talented not to make an impact if he gets ample targets and touches, so increased production should follow. Harvin has certainly been a disappointment to fantasy owners so far this season, but he is a very nice buy-low candidate for people who are looking for a player with upside for the stretch drive of the season.

Jonathan Stewart, RB, Carolina Panthers- Stewart had four carries for 23 yards along with four receptions for 22 yards against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, as the Panthers scored just three points in the game and could get little going offensively. He has yet to have a game with more than 14 carries and 68 rushing yards this season, but he has become more of a pass catching threat with 27 receptions thus far. The Panthers' upcoming schedule looks favorable for Stewart, particularly Week 12 against the Indianapolis Colts and two games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13 and Week 16. Even a matchup with the Detroit Lions in Week 11 looks somewhat favorable, as the Lions have allowed 4.7 yards per carry to opposing running backs this season. The dynamics of the Carolina backfield, with quarterback Cam Newton a running threat and running back DeAngelo Williams also likely to see opportunies, limits Stewart's upside some. That said, he should see enough touches to be on the radar of fantasy owners and makes for a nice trade target for those who need to bolster their running back depth.

Vernon Davis, TE, San Francisco 49ers- Davis had three receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown against the New York Giants in Week 10, as he scored for the first time since Week 5. The 49ers' run-first offense has limited his production all season, and if you take out a three-game stretch from Week 3-Week 5 where he had 15 receptions and scored three times his production would look even more dismal. With running back Frank Gore dealing with knee and ankle issues, the 49ers may have no choice but to open up their offense a bit more and all the team's pass catchers should benefit from that. There are no especially favorable matchups coming up for him, but the potential for increased targets definitely creates some upside for Davis. Given how tough it can be to find a suitable tight end at times, fantasy owners who have a need may want to target Davis since it is unlikely to require giving up a lot in a trade to get him.

Sell

Frank Gore, RB, San Francisco 49ers- Gore had just six carries for zero yards in Week 10 against the New York Giants, as he added a knee injury to an ankle injury he already was dealing with. 49ers' head coach Jim Harbaugh said he will play in Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals, but it would not be surprising to see his role limited in a winnable game and rookie Kendall Hunter see increased action. After that, the schedule gets tough for San Francisco, with some very good run defenses on the slate as well. Starting with Week 12 and a Thanksgiving night matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, the a couple more tougher matchups will come against the Pittsburgh Steelers (Week 15) and Seattle Seahawks (Week 16). Gore is certainly capable of being productive in a couple of favorable matchups in Week 13 against the St. Louis Rams and a rematch with the Cardinals in Week 14, but given his injury history it is a fair question if he'll be 100 percent for the rest of the season. Since his value may never be higher than it is right now, now may be the time to consider trading Gore and trying to fill holes elsewhere on your roster.

Michael Bush, RB, Oakland Raiders- Bush had a huge game in Week 10 against the San Diego Chargers, with 30 carries for 157 yards and a touchdown along with three receptions for 85 yards in the game. In two games starting in place of Darren McFadden (foot), he has 253 yards on 49 carries and a touchdown along five receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown in that span. Raiders' head coach Hue Jackson has not yet declared McFadden out for Week 11 against the Minnesota Vikings, and the longer stretch between games after playing last Thursday night may help him return to action. McFadden's return in any capacity stands to limit Bush's touches this coming Sunday, and almost certainly going forward as well. Bush is worth hanging onto for owners who have McFadden on their roster, but those who don't have McFadden and have concerns elsewhere on their roster should look at him as a solid "sell-high" candidate.
