Fantasy Football: Buy And Sell-Week 11

NFL Football - Buy/Sell

buy_sellWeek 11 is the last week of bye weeks on the NFL schedule, so fantasy football owners can take some solace in not having to deal with key players being idle after this week. Injuries have taken center stage early this week, with multiple quarterbacks coming out of Week 10 with significant injuries. Now is the time for owners to recognize performance trends and look to upcoming schedules to recognize players who may be ready to breakout in time for the playoff drive.

With that in mind, here is this week's edition of "Buy and Sell" here at Fantasy Daddy.com

Percy Harvin, WR, Minnesota Vikings- Harvin had six receptions for 52 yards and three carries for 18 yards against the Green Bay Packers in Week 10 as he looked healthy after dealing with a rib injury prior to the Vikings' Week 9 bye and the team tried to get the ball in his hands as often as possible. The Minnesota offense is likely to have ups and downs with rookie Christian Ponder under center, but Harvin is one of the few playmakers on the roster and should continue to be featured prominently if he can stay on the field. Some favorable matchups are coming, starting with the Oakland Raiders in Week 11 and continuing with the Atlanta Falcons (Week 12) and Denver Broncos (Week 13). He is simply too talented not to make an impact if he gets ample targets and touches, so increased production should follow. Harvin has certainly been a disappointment to fantasy owners so far this season, but he is a very nice buy-low candidate for people who are looking for a player with upside for the stretch drive of the season.

Quarterback Matchups the Rest of the Season - Week 10

NFL Football - Buy/Sell

Matt_StaffordQuarterback matchups the rest of the season are going to have a huge impact, not only in making the playoffs, but also in winning your league championship.  I recently completed my annual "rest of the way points allowed cheat sheet".  If you are not a numbers person you may be a little overwhelmed.  The goal of this is two fold.

  • To help with matchups for start/sits
  • To target players I want to trade or trade for.

Looking at weeks 10-17 the quarterbacks with the softest schedules are

Fantasy Football: Buy And Sell-Week 10

NFL Football - Buy/Sell

buy_sellFantasy football owners have all hands on deck this week, as Week 10 brings a one-week break from bye weeks. Also of note this week is the first Thursday night game since Week 1, setting the table for Thursday night games over the rest of the season.

Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers- Mendenhall had 13 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9, as he saw exactly 13 carries for the third straight game as the Steelers have relied on the passing game much more than usual during that span. Overall Mendenhall has had a disappointing season on the heels of his 2010 campaign (1,273 yards, 13 touchdowns), with just one 100-yard game and four touchdowns to this point. Things may not turn around immediately in Week 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals, who have the league's second-ranked rush defense, and the Steelers have a bye in Week 11. But after that, some favorable matchups are coming against the Kansas City Chiefs (Week 12), Cleveland Browns (Week 14 and Week 17) and the St. Louis Rams (Week 16). All three teams currently sit in the bottom half of the league against the run and weather could be a factor and lead to a big workload for Mendenhall in some or all of those games. Fantasy owners may be down on Mendenhall right now, which creates a buying opportunity for those in need of a running back.

Fantasy Football: Buy And Sell-Week 9

NFL Football - Buy/Sell

buy_sellWeek 9 and the midpoint of the season is here, and fantasy football owners know well by now what the strengths and weaknesses of their teams are. Still, there should still be opportunities out there to make deals to fill holes on rosters for those that can recognize opportunities to maximize a player's value or get a player whose value may have room for improvement.

Miles Austin, WR, Dallas Cowboys- Austin had just three receptions for 27 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8, giving him just five catches for 43 yards over the last two games. He also has not scored since scoring three touchdowns against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2, though he did miss the next two games with a hamstring injury. If Austin is going to turn things around, Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks brings a good opportunity to do so. Seattle has allowed just over 22 fantasy points per game (ESPN scoring) to opposing wide receivers this season, including 66 receptions to the position over a four game stretch from Week 2-Week 5. Austin also had a fairly favorable slate of games over the rest of the season, with only Week 16's rematch with the Eagles standing out as difficult.  Those looking for a wide receiver who may be ready to take off down the stretch can put Austin at or near the top of their list of trade targets.

Fantasy Football: Buy And Sell-Week 8

NFL Football - Buy/Sell

buy_sellWith Week 8 now upon us, fantasy football owners now know how their teams look, for better or worse. There is still time to improve a roster that has yielded a poor record, or possibly derail a good roster with a few less than shrewd moves.  Here is this week's edition of "Buy And Sell" here at Fantasy Daddy.com

Josh Freeman, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Freeman threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns against the Chicago Bears in Week 7, but also threw four interceptions in the game. He has been  a disappointment to fantasy owners who expected another step forward this year after a promising 2010 campaign, but he has already thrown 10 interceptions in seven games. That said, he has throw multiple touchdowns in each of his past two games and will get another matchup with the New Orleans Saints in Week 9 after Tampa Bay's Week 8 bye. In Week 7 against the Saints, Freeman threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. After that a few more potentially favorable matchups are coming in Week 11 against the Green Bay Packers, Week 12 against the Tennessee Titans and Week 13 against the Carolina Panthers. Freeman's running abilility also enhances his fantasy potential, and there is definitely a buying opportunity here for those in need of a quarterback with better upside than he has shown to this point.
