The Pick-Up Artist - Week 8

Baseball - Pick Up Artist

Here is a look at the guys you want to pick-up for Week 8 of the Fantasy Baseball Season!!

Catcher

J. P. Arencebia (Blue Jays) - Arencibia has recorded at least two hits in four of his last seven games and has seen his average increase from .220 May 13 to .252 after Monday's performance. He continues to put up good production numbers as he now has eight home runs and 23 RBI overall. While the 25-year-old continues to struggle with his average, the fact that he is showing some solid pop in his bat as well as getting everyday starts behind the plate, makes him worth a look. He is available in 62% percent of leagues.

1st Baseman

Eric Hinske (Braves) -  Hinske figures to be an everyday starter in the outfield for the next week or so with Jason Heyward on the DL with a back injury and Nate McLouth also likely to land on the DL with an oblique injury. Hinske is red hot right now for the Braves. He's gone 6 for 12 in his last three games and has his average to .356. He is available in 96% percent of leagues

2nd Baseman

Justin Turner (Mets) - Turner's been on a tear since gaining regular playing time, recording multiple hits in four of his last five games, and has gained  third base eligibility thanks to David Wright's back injury, making him an even more intriguing pickup. Turner also reached base in 12 straight games and posted an eight-game hitting streak through this past  Saturday. He  is available in  83% percent of leagues

3rd Baseman

Jamey Carroll (Dodgers)  - Carroll has started a team-high 32 times at shortstop for Los Angeles. He came into Monday batting .432 (16 for 37) in his last nine games and is hitting .319 on the season, making a believer out of Mattingly. He doesn't offer anything in the way of power and little in the way of speed, but for batting average help he is good source in that category. He is available in 79% percent of leagues.

Shortstop

Erik Aybar (Angels) - Aybar has stayed hot, now picking up a hit in 13 straight games and hitting .373 over that span. Aybar is only a couple plate appearances away from qualifying for the batting title, so expect to see his name - and his .351 batting average - to show up on the leaderboard in the coming days. He won't offer much in the way of power, but if he keeps running like he has so far, he'll do more than enough scoring at a weak position.  He is available in 42% percent of leagues.

Outfield

Ryan Ludwick (Padres) - Ludwick has raised his average from .181 to .241 during his hot stretch and has produced half of his home-run total. He quietly has 29 RBI with a .432 slugging percentage on the year, and is one of the few run producers on the Padres. The 32-year-old might not be able to hit 20-30 homers playing in the spacious PETCO Park. He is available in 56% percent of leagues.

Starting Pitcher

Homer Bailey (Reds)  -Bailey, who started this season on the disabled list with a sore pitching shoulder, struck out four batters for the second outing in a row and recorded 11 outs on grounders. The 25-year-old has now topped six innings of work in all four of his starts this year as he has seemingly overcome the injury that limited him to 19 starts last season. Saturday also marked the second time Bailey has now issued a walk as he improved his sterling K:BB ratio to 20:4. Fantasy owners should consider him a rising SP option in all formats. He is available in 50% percent of leagues.

Relief Pitcher

Matt Thornton (White Sox) -  Thornton was not necessarily put in a save situation on Sunday but it was good to see him pitch well before Chicago tacked on two more runs in the eighth. He lowered his ERA to 5.17 in the outing and made his fifth straight scoreless appearance. Sergio Santos continues to be the closer du jour for now, but the left-hander could see some opportunities if he continues to pitch well, and especially if Sergio Santos starts to struggle. He is available in 67% percent of leagues.
