This article aims to recommend sleepers, and find some spot starts to help you week to week.  I’m only looking at 2 start pitchers, so I’m looking for cheap wins, and good stats to boost your staff.

The purpose of this article is to secure quality two start pitchers for the upcoming week.  The 50% limit is based on ESPN leagues.  This article is assuming Mon – Sun week.

What I’ll try to do is identify a top 5 sleepers (< 50% owned based on ESPN)

Sleepers

1.  Doug Fister (@CLE, @BAL) – Lost in Seattle to start the season, Doug won his first start with DET, bringing his W total to 4.  Now on a good team, his W total will rise... fast.  He’s only 5% owned, so pick him up quick! (ERA: 3.29, WHIP: 1.17).

2.  Phil Hughes (LAA, TB) – For the critical Red Sox series, Yanks re-vamped their rotation pushing Hughes’ next start back to Tues.  In the battle for the #2 starter, Hughes will make his case vs. Angels/Rays (ERA: 6.93, WHIP 1.67)

3.  Tim Stauffer (@NYM, @CIN) – While Stauffer should be owned in more leagues, his Away ERA is .5 higher than his home ERA.  He visits the Mets & Reds, and Citi Field is similar to Petco, and Great American can’t be any more different.  Expect good stats, but possibility of a few more runs.  (ERA: 2.96, WHIP: 1.24)

4.  Brett Cecil (OAK, LAA) – He faces two of the worst offenses in the AL this week, this translates to 2 possible wins, and an ERA that won’t be higher than 4. (ERA: 4.35, WHIP: 1.35)

5.  Jason Marquis (HOU, NYM) – Marquis must be happy to be on a team in contention.  He’s been a pleasant surprise this year in spot starts, and he may solidify the back end of Dbacks rotation.  Not to mention he faces the AAAstros and Mets this week, makes him a must play.  (ERA: 4.33, WHIP: 1.46)
